WE CARE DEEPLY ABOUT MOTHER EARTH!
At JP, we recognize the importance of improving our eco-impact and have a task force and plan in place to decrease our footprint and make JP as sustainable as possible. We hope to use our position within the market to encourage and inspire others to enact change, and we are very open to your feedback and tips!
PLANT BASED for the planet
Choosing a plant based lifestyle is not only good for you, it’s good for our earth. Studies show that eating a vegan diet has a tremendous impact on our earth by decreasing greenhouse gasses and reducing land waste. Animals raised for consumption through factory farming emit methane and are responsible for a whopping 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. On top of that, feeding livestock puts immense strain on the environment: 70% of the grain grown in the US, and 83% of global farmland is used to raise livestock. Eating plant based cuts out the middleman and reduces our footprint!
In partnership with Gotham Greens, we’re working to make our greens fresher, more delicious, and more efficient. Greenhouse grown greens are 100% pesticide free, use recycled water, and are powered by the sun. Located in Brooklyn and Queens, our greens are grown in NYC’s backyard, meaning less emissions in transportation and the freshest produce possible.
Our delicious, plant powered smoothies have quickly become the largest part of our business, so making the switch to 100% compostable smoothie cups has made a huge impact on our plastic usage! We’ve rolled out a number of other products in new compostable packaging, like our new salads as well as our Chocolate Covered Mangos + Pineapples. We’re always looking for new leads for compostable packaging! Our food is already Just Plants – soon our store will be as well!
We encourage the use of reusable cups – bring in any reusable container and we’ll rinse it and put your order inside! If you want a JP branded reusable, check out our S’Well bottles! At every store, you’ll also have the opportunity to ditch the plastic straw and go for a reusable metal straw, specially crafted for ideal smoothie thickness!
WHY DON’T YOU USE GLASS?
Unfortunately glass is not safe for our super kitchen team members or our team members in-store. With the exception of our handcrafted Kombuchas, which, because of the fermentation process, it is necessary to use. Glass is also much heavier than PLA or plastic and as a result creates a larger carbon footprint to transport.
WHAT DO YOU DO WITH YOUR JUICE PULP?
Our juice pulp goes two places: (1) to a local composting facility and (2) into a biodigester in our super kitchen, which reduces our pulp waste anaerobically.
