We recognize the importance of improving our eco-impact and have a task force and plan in place to decrease our footprint and make JP as sustainable as possible. We hope to use our position within the market to encourage and inspire others to enact change, and we are very open to your feedback and tips!
Choosing a plant based lifestyle is not only good for you, it’s good for our earth. Studies show that eating a vegan diet has a tremendous impact on our earth by decreasing greenhouse gasses and reducing land waste. Animals raised for consumption through factory farming emit methane and are responsible for a whopping 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. On top of that, feeding livestock puts immense strain on the environment: 70% of the grain grown in the US, and 83% of global farmland is used to raise livestock. Eating plant based cuts out the middleman and reduces our footprint!
Already, our smoothie cups, straws, and napkins are PLA, which is a material made from plants that is 100% compostable. Our newest salad line uses compostable packaging and we are in the process of switching all of our salads over to this plant based packaging. Please see the label where we denote which packaging is made from plants.
We have a plan to update the rest of our plastic packaging, a task that has proved more difficult, but we’re committed to finding compostable solutions for all of our products. Our food is already Just Plants – soon our store will be as well!
Unfortunately glass is not safe for our super kitchen team members or our team members in-store. Also, glass is much heavier than PLA or plastic and as a result creates a larger carbon footprint to transport.
Our juice pulp goes two places: (1) to a local composting facility and (2) into a biodigester in our super kitchen, which reduces our pulp waste anaerobically.
